Kate Potter, learning specialist at the National Library of New Zealand, talks about the new He Tohu exhibition, which brings together three of Aotearoa’s founding documents: the 1835 Declaration of Independence – He Whakaputanga, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the 1893 Women’s Suffrage Petition. Online social inquiry resources and a YouTube channel take the exhibition to teachers across NZ, enabling access to conversations/thinking that has shaped the onsite programme. Kate challenges teachers and learners to engage with “the hard stuff” and “the heart stuff” of the Treaty.
