Whare Isaac-Sharland Kia Hīanga te Ako: HīAko
Whare Isaac-Sharland; Te Arareo Māori, describes HīAko, an innovative programme for schools offered by CORE Education. HīAko is aimed at Maori medium whānau however it will also suit Māori whānau in English medium schools. Whare explains what the programme entails, how the CORE facilitators work in the programme and how HīAko works in schools for tamariki and their whānau.
Whare talks about the development of HīAko at CORE. She describes how HīAko is the first hua or fruit from Te Tukutuku ā Māui which is the research and innovation Māori medium suite under CORE education. She recalls that the skills that Maui is known for; disrupting, innovating and problem solving are integral to the way the HīAko is run. Whare emphasises that this programme is building on skills and knowledges already embedded in whakapapa and that it’s aimed at assisting teachers, students and whānau to approach real life problems as problem solvers, together.
